Dr. Charles F.Craft

Dr. Charles F.Craft

Program Founder/Senior Dental Advisor

After graduating from the University of Nebraska in 1980 with a doctor of dental surgery degree, Dr. Charles “Fritz” Craft moved to Alaska where he served as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service for 20 years. He provided care to the Aleut, Eskimo and Native American people living in the remote regions of the Bering Sea Coast, the Arctic Circle and the Aleutian Islands. He performed over 250 field missions to isolated villages to provide dental services to native Americans who had little access to direct dental care. In 1985, Dr. Craft began volunteering with several overseas organizations and has since provided humanitarian dentistry in Jamaica, Russia, Mongolia, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Samoa, Madagascar, the Philippines and Vietnam. He and former EMW Country Director Mark Conroy started the East Meets West Dental Program in Da Nang City in 1996.

Dr. Craft currently lives in Cambodia where he works for the International SOS Medical Company and also serves as the Chief Dentist for the US Embassy in Phnom Penh. Dr. Craft is married with two daughters.

National Program Coordinator/ EMW Dental Center’s Acting Director

Minh Huong started working for the EMW Dental Program in 2005. Before joining EMW, she spent ten years working for various projects in community development and poverty elimination in Central Vietnam, including the World Food Program, UNDP, AUSAID and DANIDA. She is committed to using her skills and experience to help disadvantaged people in her country, especially underserved and disabled children in orphanages and poor rural areas.

She is convinced that a better life starts with early dental care. Minh Huong is also dedicated to advancing the quality of dental care in Da Nang and surrounding areas in Vietnam.

Chief Dentist/EMW Dental Center’s Deputy Director

Dr. An joined EMW as a Staff Dentist in 2009. He graduated from the Dental Faculty of the Medical Unversity of Hue City. He commented that, “The EMW Dental Program is the perfect working environment for a young dentist like me. It has given me wonderful training opportunities and enabled me to increase my skills through hands-on practice, all while providing top quality dental care that improves the health of disadvantaged children in Vietnam.”

Dentist

Dr. Ha’s hometown is Hue City. After graduating from the Dental Faculty, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in HCM City in 2003, she started working as a dentist at the East Meets West Dental Program. She is proud to be a member of a great dental team and happy to have opportunities to develop her skills in the center’s modern clinic facilities, with strict policies on standard dentistry performance and infection control that ensure the safety of patients and staff. She enjoys working with and learning from the Dental Program’s international volunteers and is pleased that the fee-for-service model is helping the charity program achieve self-suffiency.

Pham Thi Mai Nguyet

Dentist

Dr. Nguyet was born in Ninh Binh and moved to Da Nang with her family in 2008. She graduated from the Dental Faculty of the Medical University of Hue City and began working as a Staff Dentist for the EMW Dental Program in 2010. Dr. Nguyet worked in several private dental clinics before joining EMW Dental. She appreciates the working environment of the EMW Dental Center, with its excellent clinic facilities and dedicated staff. She enjoys working side by side with dental experts and dentists from around the globe. Dr. Nguyet is proud to belong to such a skilled and friendly team, which she believes is more like a family.

Vo Thi Thanh Van

Dentist

Originally from Dai Loc District, Quang Nam Province, Dr. Van graduated from the Dental Faculty of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in HCM City. Before joining the EMW Dental Program in 2013, Dr. Van worked for a private dental practice in HCM City. She loves children and is passionate about her work. She is constantly seeking to upgrade her skills and committed to providing the best dental care to her patients, whether they are fee-for-service clients or disadvantaged children.

My Huong began working with the EMW Dental Program in 2006 after graduating from the Da Nang College of Medical Technology and Pharmacy. When she was a student, it was her dream to work for the EMW Dental Program with its modern, professional working environment. She is grateful to the EMW Dental Program for giving her this great opportunity provide excellent dental services and help disadvantaged children. She enjoys working with the whole team to strengthen the EMW Dental Program and ensure all clients are 100% satisfied with our services.

Nurse Hien has been working for the EMW Dental Program for ten years and enjoys contributing to the program’s humanitarian activities. She appreciates the modern, well-quipped, clean clinic and the professional and cheerful attitude of her coworkers. She finds something new and interesting every day at work, and is always looking for ways to improve her own skills and bring more benefits to her clients and the disadvantaged children served by the program.

Thuy grew up in impoverished Quang Ngai Province and has first-hand experience of being short of food, clothes, money and basic health care. Since she was a little girl, it has been her dream to do humanitarian work and help poor people. So, when she joined the EMW Dental Program in 2006 it was a dream come true. Thuy enjoys her work assisting EMW dentists treating disabled and disadvantaged children in a professional and friendly environment.

Thuy joined the EMW Dental Program as an infection controller in 2006 after graduating from the College of Medical Technology and Pharmacy of Da Nang City. She was promoted to dental nurse three years ago. She has a long history with East Meets West, as she was treated for a life-threatening heart defect at the age of 14 through EMW’s Operation Healthy Heart program. She says, “EMW saved my life, took care of me and has given me a good job. Now it is my turn to help others.”

Anh Thu graduated from the Da Nang College of Economics & Business Administration in 2002 and worked for 10 years in different companies as an accountant and administrator before joining the EMW Dental Center. She is very inspired by working for the Dental Program, and constantly strives to improve herself and provide the best services to all the clients at EMW Dental Center and to the beneficiaries of humanitarian programs. She is proud to be working with a team that is dedicated to serving the community and disadvantaged children.
